Kenmare is nestled between mountains and has the Kenmare Bay at its doorstep. This leads to stunning scenery as the mountains seem to change colour daily. The River Finnehy also flows through the town directly into the Kenmare Bay. The Irish for Kenmare is Neidin, meaning 'Little Nest' due to its location between the mountains.

From the Kenmare Pier, you will see the beautiful Kenmare Bay laid out before you and stretch for as far as the eye can see which is a spectacular sight. There are many islands off the coast and seals can be seen on these islands. There are boat cruises daily on the Bay and these will take you closer to the seals and show you the scenery from a different angle.

The Suspension Bridge is another spectacular feature with its wide arches. It is a magnificent piece of architecture. Fishing is possible from the bridge. From the Suspension Bridge you will also have a stunning view of the Kenmare Bay.

The Tourist Board, Bórd Fáilte, officially recognised the historical, cultural and environmental significance of Kenmare by bestowing upon it the title of Kerry's first Heritage Town.

The Kenmare Golf Club is located just 2 minutes walk from the town. It is an 18 hole golf course which is located on the edge of the Kenmare Bay. Stunning fairways lined with trees and adjacent to the Kenmare Bay, it will prove to be a memorable day.

The Ring of Kerry Golf Club is located 5 minutes drive from the town. This course has views of the Kenmare Bay and also the islands which lie a shirt distance from the coast. It is a wonderful course and well worth a visit.

Other activities close to the town are a number of equestrian centers where people of all levels can enjoy themselves. Diving enthusiasts will also feel at home in Kenmare as it has a diving center.

The Faungorth Activity Centre is located just 2 minutes drive from town. Here, there are many activities such as archery, pitch and putt, archery, mountain biking, a driving range and tennis courts.

Reenagross Park is also well worth a visit. It has walkways that lead you past the shores of the Kenmare Bay. Within this small forest, you will come across many views that will take your breath away.
